Chalazion

Description of the Disease and Clinical Picture

A chalazion is a nodule that forms on the edge of the eyelid due to the obstruction of the meibomian glands of the lid. It is most often solid in consistency and painless. Because it resembles eyelid neoplasia, an accurate diagnosis must be made. Chalazion most often occurs as a result of allergic skin and conjunctival diseases.

Therapy

In most cases, a smaller chalazion can spontaneously disappear after the introduction of systemic and topical drugs to control allergic skin and conjunctival diseases, as well as eye drops to improve the quality of the tear film. If the chalazion is larger and persistent, and the dog is cooperative, warm compresses are applied to the chalazion 3-4 times daily for 10 minutes each time. Systemic anti-inflammatory agents are given. If the therapy does not help, surgical intervention is considered – the chalazion is incised and drained.
